The Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic evaluates your health before surgery, reviewing medical history, medications, and tests to ensure you’re fit for anaesthesia, reduce risks, and create a personalised care plan for a safer operation and smoother recovery.
If you're scheduled for an operation, there's a good chance you'll be asked to visit our Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic first.
Our Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic is designed to assess the suitability for general anaesthetic by ensuring that you are both physically and mentally prepared for the upcoming surgery. It's a critical step that aids in reducing the risk of surgical complications and aids in planning an optimal course of treatment.
The Assessment Clinics are managed by nurses and consultant anaesthetists, depending on the specifics of your surgery and existing health conditions.
The visit is specially designed to assess your health status, tailor your surgery and post-operative care plan to your unique needs, and answer any questions you may have. It's all about ensuring a safer surgery and a smoother recovery.
For patients undergoing general anaesthesia and day-case procedures, the appointment is usually conducted over the phone by one of our dedicated nursing team members.
Please remember to bring your medical documentation, a list of the current medication you're on, and all of your questions or concerns. It can be beneficial to write these down in advance to ensure you touch base on each point during your visit.
If you have any further queries, please contact your Consultant.
