Ian Harley qualified in Medicine in 1993 from the Queen's University of Belfast (MB, BCh, BAO). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist. Ian is a sub specialist in Gynaecological Oncology following 4 years of additional higher training Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada (2003-2007). In 2008 he obtained a higher qualification of Doctorate in Medicine from Queen's University Belfast and is an Honorary Lecturer in the Cancer Research Centre of the University. Ian was appointed a consultant at the Belfast City Hospital in 2007. He is currently the Regional NiCAN lead and Regional Multidisciplinary lead for Gynaecological Cancers.
Ian has over 25 years experience in Gynaecology. His main clinical interests include keyhole (minimal access) surgery, complex pelvic surgery, Gynae. cancer prevention through diagnostic testing, screening and genetic testing. Other interests include investigation and management of abnormal smears, post-menopausal bleeding, heavy menstrual blood loss, pelvic pain, gynae. ultrasound, fibroids and other abnormality of the female genital tract.
