I graduated in Medicine from Queens University Belfast in 1989 ( MB BCH BAO). After a period of training in General Practice (MRCGP 1993), I pursued specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Northern Ireland (MRCOG 1997). I undertook a period of clinical research in Urogynaecology at the Warrell Centre Manchester followed by RCOG accredited subspecialty training in Urogynaecology at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Newcastle upon Tyne ( 2001-2004). I was awarded completion of specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and subspecialist in Urogynaecology (2003) with a Doctor of Medicine by Newcastle University (2008) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (2009).
I am currently working as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Subspecialist in Urogynaecology at Belfast Health & Social Care Trust (previously appointed as Consultant Gynaecologist, Subspecialist in Urogynaecology, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh ( 2004- 2010). Current roles include clinical lead for the NI mesh centre, Chair of the NI Regional MDM for mesh/complex urogynaecology and NI educational preceptor for advanced training skills in urogynaecology. Previous administrative roles included Clinical Director Gynaecology BHSCT (2017-2021), Chair of British Society Urogynaecology Training Subcommittee (2007-2011), Chair of RCOG Subspecialty Committee (2010-2015), RCOG Urodynamics Course organiser (2011-2015), Urogynaecology representative on Lindsay Stewart Audit and Informatics Committee (2015-2018), Academic representative on NI Medical School Board (2014-2018) and Chair of UKCS Annual Scientific Conference (2016).
My clinical expertise is in surgical and non-surgical management of pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic floor reconstruction and urinary incontinence. Throughout my career I have contributed to a number of UK peer review bodies and in setting standards for continence care and urodynamics investigation. I have a keen interest in post-graduate medical education and training in the subspecialty of urogynaecology (member of the Education Board of the RCOG (2011-2015). I have contributed to research in urogynaecology and co-authored more than 40 publications.
